S & L Duo is Adam Sarata (guitar) and Tom Lempner (saxophones, clarinet, flute). It also performs as a trio with Alan Gleghorn (double bass) or Darren Allen on drums. The ensemble performs jazz standards, original pieces, or classical compositions at small venues, restaurants, private events, and various art and music festivals


Adam Sarata is currently the Director of the Summit Music School. He has taught at the University of Mount Union, Ashland University, Muskingum University, and the Community Music School of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He studied classical and jazz guitar with James Piorkowski, Dean Newton, and Stephen Aron. On a full scholarship, he completed graduate studies at the University of Akron in 2001. Sarata has performed at Severance Hall, Warner Hall, and Elizabeth Pastor Hall. Sarata was a featured performer at the Wooster Jam Music and Arts Festival, Ingenuity Festival, and the International Rantucci Guitar Competition and Festival. He has adjudicated the James Stroud Guitar Competition, the Burning River Electric Guitar Festival, and the Rantucci Competition. Sarata has released three classical guitar recordings: Guitar at Akron, Cavata, and Sul Tasto. WCLV of Cleveland endorsed his playing as "lovely, colorful, [a] very nice performance." He has written articles published in Soundboard Magazine and Basically Bohlen. Residing in Akron, OH with his wife and daughter, he enjoys hiking and astronomy


 

Tom Lempner serves on the music faculty at Baldwin Wallace University's Conservatory of Music and at Cleveland State University; he previously held positions at Kent State University (Geauga campus), Western Reserve Academy, and Lorain County Community College. He works full time as a Music Therapist for the Positive Education Program at both a center for autism and a day treatment center for troubled youth. He earned a Masters of Music degree at Kent State University and a double Bachelors degree in Music Performance and Music Therapy at the Conservatory of Music at Baldwin-Wallace College, and he also earned a diploma from the Armed Forces School of Music, Little Creek, VA. Tom performs with Cleveland Winds, Transportation Boulevard Jazz Quintet, Trepanning Trio, Neo-Tessares Saxophone Quartet, NEO Dixie, Freedom Jazz Collective, OutLab, Night Owls, Noel Quintana's Latin Crew, Powerhouse 5, Ekklesia Ensemble, and various other big bands. Tom enjoys reading Bible commentaries, spending time with his family, and learning to work with tools. He is a member of Grace Church of Mentor.
